The UVA Library does not fund article processing charges (APCs); however, funding may be available for some publishers through agreements with VIVA, Virginia's academic library consortium.

There are other ways of making articles available open access for free, for example using the UVa Institutional Repository Libra or a similar open repository. Most publishers permit authors to post their final accepted manuscript (the version that reflects all the changes from peer review, but is not yet typeset and paginated) in an institutional repository like Libra, or in a disciplinary repository.

Journal policies may be searched at https://v2.sherpa.ac.uk/romeo/

Placing an author’s accepted manuscript into Libra will make the article findable by Google Scholar and other search engines, which help anyone without a subscription find access to free versions.
