Clemons Library has a lactation or New Mother's room on the 3rd floor - 311. The key can be checked out from the Clemons Desk. The room has a sign and an "occupied/unoccupied" sign.
A full list of all lactation rooms on grounds can be found here: http://www.hr.virginia.edu/uploads/documents/media/Lactation_Rooms.pdf. More information about lactation rooms on grounds can be found here: http://www.hr.virginia.edu/news-events/news/nursing-mothers. FYI: This HR program is focused on employees, not students.
- The Health Sciences Library has two lockable, gender-neutral, single-stall restrooms in our Cabell Room (lower level) that are family-friendly (they are quite spacious) and can be used for pumping or nursing. The Cabell Room is accessible when the library is open. More info: http://news.hsl.virginia.edu/?p=6555
- The Dean's Office offers a Mothering Room to students in New Cabell Hall. They can contact the Dean's Office via Aimee Steussey, email@example.com, 434-924-4027. Aimee will double check that the person is a UVA affiliate, then they can get access to the room (usually kept locked).
- UVA Medical Center offers a Lactation Room for employees. Breastfeeding Medicine Program: (434) 982-3316, http://www.healthsystem.virginia.edu/pub/worklife/childcareandparenting/lactation.html.
"The Breastfeeding Medicine Program at UVA Medical Center is available to provide support for the employees of UVA. This team consists of Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) and Pediatricians that provide 7 day a week coverage." "There is a Nursing mothers lounge on the ground floor of the Main Hospital in Room G441. It is open 24 hours a day, and has 2 pumping/ nursing stations. The room is accessed via ID Badge. To gain access, contact the UVA Breastfeeding Medicine Program with your UVA ID# . Call 982-3316. Please allow 24 hours for your request to be fulfilled."
The UVA Hospital is located at 1215 Lee Street, Charlottesville, VA. Google maps says it is a 13 minute walk from Alderman library.
- If the request is urgent AND the requester has a battery-powered pump, you can try to suggest one of the 5th floor bathrooms, which lock and are large enough to put a chair inside -- but there are no electrical outlets. Another possibility is papering over the windows in a reservable study room in Clemons.
