Q. What happened to the County Business Patterns database that UVA created?

This database covering 1977-2000 was originally a GEOSTAT project. It was not migrated when the fisher server was taken down.

As the UVa Library migrated many of our older resources to new servers, we have discontinued maintenance on some of those resources. The "2-digit SIC data for 1977-1997" of the County Business Patterns is one of those on which we have discontinued maintenance. We are now referring people to the Census's website for the County Business Program survey: https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/cbp.html

Further information is available from the Census Bureau about historical CBP information on this page: http://www.census.gov/econ/cbp/historical.htm. We have asked the Census Bureau to remove mention of UVa's discontinued CBP datasets, but this hasn't happened just yet. You may wish to make special note the statement at the top of the page: "Printed volumes in major depository libraries [including UVA's Shannon Library] are the only forms in which data are available prior to 1986."
