Sorry!  We can't put that code out on the web.  Please contact a librarian for the code.

IMPORTANT: The Library is ending it's subscription to RefWorks on August 31, 2019. Any items you have stored in your account (if through UVa) need to be moved to another citation manager before that date. There are a number of free products which are good alternatives to RefWorks. Zotero is one alternative to consider.

Why is the Library cancelling its RefWorks subscription?

  • There are a number of factors that went into this decision, including low usage of RefWorks and the availability of free, more powerful alternatives for citation management and collaboration.

What will happen to accounts after the cancelation?

  • On September 1st you will no longer be able to login to RefWorks or access your stored citations. The Library strongly encourages all users to back up their citations and transition to alternative programs before then.

What alternatives exist?

  • There are several alternative citation managers on the market, both free and paid. These includes Zotero (free), Mendeley (free), and EndNote (paid). The University of Virginia Library highly recommends Zotero, developed at George Mason University. More information on Zotero, including transitioning from RefWorks, can be found here.

What about my saved articles, book chapters, etc?

  • The free Zotero account provides for up to 300MB of file storage. Plugins for Zotero also allow you to connect it to services such as DropBox, Box, and UVa's Home Directory.

How can I export my citations/bibliography?

Where can I get assistance during this transition?
