Q. Who was Alderman named after?

Alderman Library was named after the first president of the University of Virginia, Edwin Anderson Alderman, who took office in 1904 through 1931.  

In 2024, Alderman was renamed Shannon Library, after Edgar F. Shannon, who was UVA’s fourth president from 1959 through 1974. Read more about what Shannon accomplished during his term.
