Q. Why are there so many libraries on grounds?

The UVA Library has over five million physical items, including books, A/V materials, and print journals. This is in addition to more than 16 million items in our archival collections, 1.4 million ebooks, and access to innumerable journals and magazines online.  As our collection expanded, we built additional libraries both for space and to centralize collections around departmental needs.
