Q. Who can borrow material from the library?

UVA students, staff, alumni, and faculty are automatically given library accounts.  

All of the following are also eligible to borrow from UVA: 

• UVA students 

• UVA faculty 

• UVA staff 

• UVA alumni 

• UVA research projects 

• Individuals associated with UVA agencies by specific arrangement 

• Virginia residents (at least 16 years of age) 

• Faculty and students at other Virginia higher education institutions 

• Independent researchers (upon presentation of a picture ID) 

• Emeritus faculty 

• Retirees 

 If you aren't currently affiliated with UVA, you may register online using our online registration form or register in person at any l

ibrary location. On your first visit to a library, you will need to present a valid photo ID and proof of home address.

Valid forms of identification include: 

• driver's license or ID card 

• passport 

• ID card from a Virginia higher education institution 

Library borrowers must be 16 years of age or older. Please refer to the Library Circulation Policies for more information.
